Patients To Have Their Say On Infertility Treatment In Scotland

Infertility Network Scotland has welcomed the announcement by the Public Health Minister, Shona Robison, that over the next three years the Scottish Government will provide funding to Infertility Network Scotland to work with Health Boards to help them to address the inequity of access that has existed in Scotland for too many years. We also welcomed the news that an expert advisory group will be established this summer to consider an action plan on infertility services. Sheena Young, Head of Business development for Infertility Network Scotland said "Infertility Network Scotland which is a branch of the national charity Infertility Network UK was recently set up to ensure patients in Scotland had their own Scottish identify. Infertility Network Scotland is committed to the provision of patient information and support and, working with the National Infertility Awareness Campaign (NIAC), has long campaigned for the end to the postcode lottery that exists for infertility sufferers in some areas. We are delighted to be asked by The Scottish Government to undertake this work with Health Boards in Scotland to address issues about funding and criteria for fertility treatment. It is important that everyone in Scotland has fair and equal access to treatment which is what this project aims to achieve." Patients can access up to date information on the NHS treatment provided by all the Health Boards through the new Funding for Fertility section of our website - visit http://www.fundingforfertility.co.uk for full details.
